Air accident caused by faulty device
A Turkish airline which crashed in an accident killing 9 people was due to a problem with a device used to measure altitude.
The Boeing 737-800 had 135 passengers and crew on board when it crashed less than a mile from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on the 25th of February.
The plane was landing when a problem with the altimeter led to a loss of air speed before the crash. The aircraft had experienced similar problems twice before. The problem was noticed by the plane's captain during the flight but he did not react as he did not consider it an issue. By the time the warning systems had alerted the pilots it was to late to rectify.
The plane hit the ground tail first and smashed into 3 pieces.
