Dream family holiday turns into a nightmare
16 members of the same family had a dream holiday in Majorca ruined by a severe illness. Despite returning to the UK almost a month ago the family are still unwell, and fear that over 100 other UK holidaymakers may also be suffering.
The Cobbs from South Ockendon, Essex booked a two-week holiday at the Hotel Jupiter in Alcudia through First Choice but could never have known what was in store for them.
Arriving in Majorca after a 14 hour flight delay, the Cobbs enjoyed their holiday for less than 24 hours before the first member of their group became ill with sickness and diarrhoea. One by one the whole group became infected.
"The hotel management claimed that an airborne virus was making people ill and promised that extra cleaning was being carried out, and simply advised us to drink lots of water" says Mum, Kirsty Cobbs.
Despite assurances from the hotel, the Cobbs had serious worries about the cleanliness of the Hotel Jupiter.
"Bathrooms and public areas were simply not clean enough, someone was sick in the pool and it was never drained. It seemed like everyone at the hotel was ill, people were being sick all the time, the whole experience was awful."
Unfortunately the family's ordeal did not end when they returned home. Many family members sought medical advice as soon as they got back to the UK. Mr Steven Cobbs parents now have swollen liver and intestines and the children are still off school. Most tragically of all Mrs Kirsty Cobbs was meant to start a new job as a nursery nurse when they got back from Majorca, Kirsty has been so ill that her employers have had to offer the position to someone else.
"I wish we could turn back the clock, the last few weeks have been a real nightmare." Says Kirsty.
But the nightmare might not be limited to the Cobbs family. There were hundreds of other holidaymakers at the Hotel Jupiter and Mr and Mrs Cobbs' solicitor would like as many people as possible to come forward:
"We are investigating possible legal action on behalf of Mr and Mrs Cobbs and need the help of other people staying at the Hotel Jupiter at the same time." Requested Azra Saddique from solicitors Ashton Morton Slack.
"If you were staying at the Hotel Jupiter in Alcudia, Majorca from 13th September to 27th September then please get in touch with us by calling free on 0800 328 5313. You might be able to help us gather information about what happened and you may even be able to claim compensation."
