Still on holiday?
If you are still on holiday, or you have heard from a friend of relative who is still on holiday and has had an accident, we would recommend the following steps are taken:
Report the accident
Report the accident to your holiday rep as soon as possible. Get them to make a written record of the accident, and obtain a copy of what they have written. Make sure you get the name of the person to whom you report the accident.
Keep hospital and medical receipts
If you need medical attention, make a note of the name and location of the hospital/doctor you see. If you need treatment, and/or need to buy medication, keep all your receipts - you will need these to be able to claim back the cost.
Write everything down
Write down precise details of when, where and how the accident happened whilst the circumstances are still fresh in your mind. Write down as much information as possible, as important details can get forgotten later on. Keep a written record of how your injuries are affecting you, and your enjoyment of your holiday. If any repairs or alterations are carried out to any hazard/defect that caused your accident make a note of what the repairs/alterations are. Further photographs may be useful.
Find witnesses and take photos
Try to get the names and addresses of anybody who saw your accident, we may need to contact them as witnesses to what happened. If possible take photographs of where your accident happened, including any particular defect or hazard that caused your accident. Make a note of the date you took the photographs.
Keep your holiday brochure
Keep the brochure from which your holiday was booked, along with your booking forms/invoice.
